The premise of the product is to have a library of activities that target different communication skills, allowing its users to practice their communication skills from the comfort of their own homes without a therapist present. Accordingly, the project will entail the development of those activities and other features like the user interface, data analysis and voice recognition. This would greatly help accelerate the company’s progress and aid them in entering the market at a much faster rate, as well as reaching different customer segments that each have different sets of communication skills to work on.

Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre Project

A long-standing community-based organization, the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre (SFBLC) started as a temporary project in the summer of 1983. A year later, it was incorporated as a non-profit entity and remains “committed to ensuring a food-secure community where all people have access to safe, affordable, and nutritious
food.” The SFBLC currently offers a variety of programs, services and initiatives addressing the underlying causes of food insecurity and poverty in the city of Saskatoon.
Approaching its 40th anniversary, the organization wishes to examine and share its own history. In anticipation of this event, the SFBLC is partnering with the University of Saskatchewan History Department’s Co-Lab—Centre for Community-Engaged and Collaborative Historical Research (Co-Lab) to review and document its organizational history, highlighting the organization’s important contribution to the city of Saskatoon. The project will create a report and several short videos documenting this history.

Calgary as a Sustainable Tourism Destination

To understand how well a city’s socio-economic and natural systems are functioning, destinations around the world utilize indicators to measure and report on sustainability stewardship. Global Destination Movement put forth an international benchmarking framework (GDS Index) to evaluate a destinations’ sustainability performance. Sustainability is measured across 77 indicators within four categories (social, environmental, supplier and destination management organization criteria), and is aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. Sustainability indicators are effective tools for igniting dialogue between stakeholders, driving change, setting targets, understanding emerging trends, creating new solutions and ideas, and can overall lead to effective policy, planning, and strategic management in the tourism sector. This project aims to utilize the GDS Index to measure Calgary’s performance as a sustainable tourism destination and overall explore strategies to improve its score. The goal of Calgary measuring and reporting within this framework is to encourage short- and long-term regenerative socio-economic prosperity throughout new market expansion in the sector.

This project proposes a comprehensive analysis of the impact of environmental stress on Antarctic fish, utilizing an integrated approach that combines biophysical and genomic analyses to study adaptation mechanisms. By integrating disciplines, including physics and biology, this research aims to enhance our understanding of evolutionary processes and adaptation strategies of organisms in extreme environments, such as polar regions. The foundation of this study is based on whole genome sequencing data from a Korean laboratory, which will be analyzed using computational physical techniques to investigate the biological mechanisms of adaptation. This multidisciplinary methodology allows for a more in-depth examination of how Antarctic fish cope with environmental challenges, contributing to our broader understanding of genetic and physiological responses to extreme cold. AltaML builds artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled solutions to business problems. We work with organisations, bringing together their data and domain expertise with our AI expertise, to develop AI solutions that are deployed in their operations. We also commercialize AI-enabled products business via industry-specific ventures, yielding scalability from our investment in the first solution. Competition for tech talent is fierce, and our talent strategy includes a talent accelerator program, designed to rapidly equip highly qualified individuals with hands-on work experience in applied AI while providing partners with continuous and cost-effective development of AI solutions. AltaML’s AI Lab for Government, also known as GovLab, is a talent accelerator for public service professionals, post-secondary students and recent graduates. GovLab.ai’s mission is to set a global example of how to transform the public sector through applied AI, and is designed to encourage the growth of technical and business AI skill sets that are in high demand across Alberta and around the world. The project comprises internships in a variety of technical and business roles within our organization and within our GovLab program. Within the organization, roles include associate machine learning developer, business development associate, communications associate and finance associate. Within GovLab specifically, roles include associate machine learning developer, associate business solutions consultant, and project delivery associate. The difference is mainly that in GovLab, there is a focus on public sector problems, whereas in AltaML overall, we work across sectors.

[Impact du traitement Forcyl® sur les Campylobacter et les E. coli fécaux chez le bovin

La marbofloxacine est un antibiotique (fluoroqinolone de troisième génération) utilisée en médecine vétérinaire. Son effet sur la santé des animaux est bien documenté par le partenaire Vétoquinol. Toutefois, son impact sur les Campylobacter (pathogène alimentaire) et les E.coli fécaux de la flore fécale (indicateurs), n’a pas été documenté. Le but de l’étude est donc de déterminer les effets du traitement Forcyl® sur ces 2 bactéries, plus spécifiquement de mesurer l’impact de ce traitement sur leur concentration et sur la sélection de souches résistantes à la marbofloxacine. Ces travaux sont très pertients pour Vétoquinol, étant donné qu’ils appuieront l’analyse du risque pour la sécurité de cette approche thérapeutique des maladies respiratoires ou des mammites chez le bovin. Ainsi les connaissances produites permettront de documenter les impacts du traitement Forcyl® sur certains microorganismes de la microflore intestinale de l’animal dans une perspective de salubrité alimentaire après traitement, et permettront au partenaire de rencontrer les exigences de Santé Canada
