Simulation of Device Location Changes

Mobile devices are essential in today’s enterprise, enabling workers to carry out their duties effectively. However, losing or having such devices stolen can be detrimental, making it important to locate them at any given time and place. The project aims to develop a simulation tool that generates location data for mobile devices in real-life scenarios, such as indoor, walking, and driving, to ensure that SOTI’s location tracking product can scale and perform as expected based on location data. By participating in the project, SOTI can improve their product with the simulation tool so that they can better meet their customers’ needs and stay competitive in the market. Additionally, SOTI will have the opportunity to collaborate with academic researchers, gain new insights and ideas for future product development.

Increasing industrial interest in biobased polymers to replace traditional plastics is on the rise. Bio- sourced alternatives still experience challenges that require resolution prior to their being able to fit into existing infrastructure and replace petroleum plastics in the market. Assessing equity in urban forest distribution in Laval, Quebec

This project aims to assess the degree of sociospatial polarization of green space in the City of Laval, Quebec, compared to the Montreal Greater Metropolitan Area (Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, CMM) and identify which areas in the city have reached or have the potential to meet proposed metrics for distributional inequalities in green spaces. The project will also quantify relationships between proposed metrics and economic indicators, and evaluate whether target measures are more likely to be more equitably achieved if key areas, such as golfs, are preserved, or restored.

Do methodological trade-offs used to conduct rapid reviews of the literature lead to biased results and conclusions?

Systematic reviews are a type of research that collect and assess relevant information for a specific research question. However, they can take up to two years to complete. In situations with time constraints or limited resources, rapid reviews can provide decision-makers with evidence. Rapid reviews use modifications from systematic review processes, called trade-offs, resulting in less resources needed to reach a conclusion. However, they may lead to different studies being included in the review and different conclusions may be made. Our project focuses on investigating the impact of trade-offs on studies included and conclusions made in rapid reviews. The College of Chiropractors of British Columbia use rapid reviews to make policy decisions. As our partner in this proposal, this work will directly impact how they use research in their policy process, the practice of chiropractic, and the safety of patients and the public of the province.

Keyword Search in Relational Databases for Business Users Year Two

Much of the world’s high-quality data remains under lock in relational databases. Access is gained through relational query languages. This can suffice for people who are well versed in both SQL and in the schemas of databases. However, anyone who does not know SQL or who is not well versed in the schema is effectively locked out. Keyword search over relational databases was proposed a decade ago to offer an alternative way to query a database. While the general approach has merit, many refinements are needed, before it can be an effective product. Our goal is to build a Google-like search experience over relational databases. Comparing to previous approaches, we build a system to return meaningful answers and is applicable on databases with large and complex schema. This project is beneficial to Dapasoft Inc. since it has the capability of being an independent product and/or be combined with existing products.

Conception d’un système de gestion de la batterie avec un système de communication intégré

AWL-Électricité travaille actuellement au développement d’un chargeur sans fil dans le domaine de la mobilité en utilisant une technologie de couplage capacitif résonant.
Dans le but de manufacturer est d’amener un premier produit sur le marché, AWL-E cherche à développer un BMS avec un système de communication intégré, sois un système de gestion d’une batterie contenant en plus un système de communication capable d’envoyer des données en temps réel sur l’état de la batterie, et l’intégrer au produit présentement en développement. Le but est d’améliorer l’efficacité de recharge des appareils par le produit développé par AWL-E, et de pouvoir receuillir des information sur la recharge des appareils. Ces information pourront alors indiquer au produit d’arrêter de recharger la batterie au moment opportun.

Affecting more than 15% of the general population, these indications have significant affect on health and wellbeing including occupational, physical and mental health. Recovery is lengthy, re-occurance is common and treatment is not standarized. Through development, there is an opportunity to advance assistive device innovation to improve treatment outcomes and ultimately improve the health and well being of Canadians.

Clarivent Bubble Helmet Verification

Many methods for providing respiratory support to patients are currently in use, however more commonly available techniques such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) are not appropriate for ventilation of patients with airborne infectious diseases due to the risk of aerosolization endangering other patients and hospital staff. Clarivent has develop a sealed device to provide non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) to patients and allow for the provision of respiratory therapy with widely available methods such as CPAP, while minimizing the risk of infection for other patients and staff. This project will focus on verification and validation of this device.

Everly Essentials- Retail Expansion

Everly is on a mission to transform our everyday self-care essentials so that they not only care for us but for the planet too. Roughly 50 million tons of waste is produced a year and most of it is shipped to / dumped in poor countries in Asia and Africa. Beauty and self-care product packaging contribute massively to this issue. We know there’s a better way to produce these products, which is why we started Everly. The first product we are tackling is candles. We’ve reimagined how we consume candles and developed a proprietary way to reduce waste around candle consumption. Another problem with candles is that most candles in the market are made with paraffin wax, a byproduct of petroleum that is not only toxic for humans but terrible for the environment. Additionally, typical candles use toxic fragrances (the fragrance industry is sadly unregulated by the FDA). All of Everly’s products are clean, meaning they are free of toxic ingredients & sustainable (compostable packaging). In 2022, we finally launched our brand online through our website (tryeverly.com), and in 2023, we’re looking forward to expand our footprint in select retailers.

Sean Grindal – Applying emerging AI technology to Enhance Learning in the Classroom

The intern will be participating in research to evaluate ways to apply emerging AI technology and AI products to the Canadian education sector. Education topics of focus include but are not limited to, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and computer science. The intern will evaluate the current AI landscape to discern the capabilities of the technology to be applied to the teaching of these subjects. Through collaboration with the partner organization (Cansbridge Fellowship) and the academic supervisor Prof. Francois Pitt, the intern will utilize their computer-science experience and previous work as a software developer to discern the difficulty of developing new AI applications using existing AI models to solve teaching problems that existing products aren’t yet suited for. The partner organization will provide direct mentorship through its alumni network spanning leadership in iconic innovation-leading organizations such as Google, Facebook, and dozens of startups. Helping to innovate Canada’s education system directly aligns with the Cansbridge Fellowship’s mission to help the next generation of innovative Canadian students.
