How have differential alcohol policies affected alcohol use and harm across Canada during the outbreak of COVID-19?

The applicant will join an active alcohol policy research team at the Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research (CISUR) who are engaged in looking at interactions between changes to alcohol policy during COVID-19 lockdowns and implications of these for alcohol consumption and related harms. The applicant will be given training in the use of an international resource developed at CISUR, the International Model for Alcohol Harms and Policies and will have access to unique Canadian data on alcohol sales and related harms. He will be helped to prepare at least one first authored publication arising from this work. He will also be able to join project team meetings on a variety of alcohol policy and epidemiology topics, including estimating the economic costs of substance use and the assessment of alcohol policy implementation in Canadian jurisdictions. He will participate in in-house seminars and deliver at least two of these himself. CISUR will contribute CAN$2,000 for research expenses from internal resources to support the student.
