Development of Educational Programming for the Lucy Maud Montgomery Museum and Literary Centre

This project is a collaboration between the University of Guelph and the Halton Hills Heritage Foundation for the development of educational programming for the Lucy Maud Montgomery Museum and Literary Centre (LMMMLC). The LMMMLC has the potential to become a social and cultural hub in the Halton Region based in the town of Norval, Ontario. This institution will be instrumental in the community and cultural rebuilding efforts that are currently undertaken by most Canadian cities at this moment. But because of the circumstances created by the pandemic, the Heritage Foundation has been unable to execute major preparations for the opening of the LMMMLC, including hiring specialists to devise educational programming and oversee its promotion. These issues remain present as there are no steady sources of income that can support the administrative tasks required in the organization of people and activities that could be part of the LMMMLC’s educational programming. Thus, this project’s focus on the development of educational programming aims to address both the social offerings of the LMMMLC and its financial needs to operate as an institution.

Northern Alberta Business Incubator (NABI) in St. Albert, is home to over 90 small businesses in various stages of their development. NABI supports businesses that are home-based or virtual to those that need space to launch and grow through incubation facilities, memberships, amenities, and business programs. NABI also function as a conduit to connect entrepreneurs with entrepreneurial ecosystems in Alberta and beyond.

As part of business incubation programs and services, NABI has a variety of forms, processes, communication and amenities, e.g., selection criteria, intake forms, member onboarding, incubation, graduation, member and alumni perks, data worksheets, communication/notifications, newsletters, vendor profiling, etc. which we would like to seamlessly integrate with our HubSpot CRM, NABI website, virtual reception, Skedda room booking system, facility remote access and security.

Elder Financial Abuse: What role should banks and financial institutions play regarding intervention in cases of suspected financial abuse, involving power of attorney arrangements?

Elder financial abuse is a nation-wide problem that affects banks and investment firms. Many experts recognize that a large number of these elder financial abuse cases involve power of attorney arrangements (Sasha Angus, personal communication, July 2013). Ambiguity exists regarding the role of banks and financial institutions regarding this problem. OBSI regularly encounters these types of financial abuse cases involving power of attorney arrangements. They are therefore interested in investigating the role that banks and financial institutions should play regarding intervention in cases of suspected financial abuse involving POA’s. This project will provide OBSI with clarity on this topic through research and suggested recommendations. This information will then be used to assist OBSI in both preventing and responding to these types of cases; ultimately, mitigating this issue

The metaverse can be described as a virtual 3D world, converging real world perceptions in a digital space with an infinite amount of possibilities. This convergence exactly represents the next era of the internet. The metaverse, however, is incredibly nascent in its realization; and it is a pioneering opportunity for leading online entertainment and social media companies to capitalize on the categorical emergence of metaverse applications and communities.
ET.AL is leveraging blockchain and metaverse technologies to reduce barriers to entry to the fine and digital art markets for investors around the world, critically disrupting a +$1 trillion asset class that is almost exclusively capitalized by the ultra-rich. They also rarely share their collections publicly.

ET.AL is on the leading frontier of a new business model, offering fractional ownership of physical art, collectibles and antiquities by issuing NFT editions. EEG – Based Integrated Solution for High Performance Human Activities in Critical Applications in Industrial Facilities

Human activities are linked to mental and physical functions. Critical applications require assurance of human activities to meet target performance and safety measures. The monitoring of human activities is difficult and might not be possible in some situations where brain functions might not be visible and can only be understood by understanding human behavior. The use of EEG (electroencephalogram) will enable the understanding of brain functions via the analysis of signals from the EEG system. There are difficulties of analyzing EEG signals due to complexity of signals without proper understanding of other behavior factors related to human activities.
This project is aiming to designing an integrated EEG-based solution to monitor human behavior and link with human activities in critical applications.
One potential application is the use of EEG-assisted operator performance monitoring, which will provide real time and precise assessment of human performance and link to operation activities. The analysis technique will map human brain signals to behavior and activities, which will be translated into human behavior assessment to improve operation performance and safety.

Optimisation du processus d’ajout d’un médicament à la pharmacie

Le Département de pharmacie du CHUM est responsable de la gestion du service des médicaments dans tout l’hôpital afin de répondre aux besoins des patients (médicaments servis au nom du patient et médicaments disponibles à l’unité de soins sur validation et au commun dans différentes localisation dont les cabinets automatisés décentralisés). En particulier, la pharmacie s’occupe du réapprovisionnement des médicaments dans les unités de soins, ainsi que des étapes en amont. Un grand projet de recherche se déroule déjà au CHUM en partenariat avec la pharmacie afin de modifier les façons dont les réapprovisionnements sont effectués et de transformer les processus actuels dans un système plus juste-à-temps basé sur l’apprentissage machine et l’optimisation. Cependant, avant de pouvoir déployer de telles approches, une étape clé est la cartographie des processus actuels afin de pouvoir par la suite les modéliser mathématiquement. Plusieurs trajectoires classiques de médicaments sont déjà cartographiées, mais l’ajout de nouveaux médicaments dans le circuit et tous les défis qui y sont associés ne sont pas encore bien établies et identifiés.

Creation and validation of a GAN-based approach to minimize the cost and radiation burden of PET radiopharmaceuticals

This project will facilitate the development and validation of a novel AI-based model that can improve the quality of PET images such that diagnostic-quality images can be reconstructed from administering a smaller radiopharmaceutical dose to the patient. The two main advantages of this are decreased radiation dose to the patient which decreases the chance of developing a radiation-induced cancer, and also decreased cost to the healthcare system because less radiopharmaceutical is required to produce a diagnostic-quality study. This will have the downstream effect of expanding the PET radiopharmaceutical arsenal of Canadian physicians, which is often limited due to the significant cost of new radiopharmaceuticals.

Olympus NDT : Intelligence artificielle avancée pour le contrôle non destructif

L’intelligence artificielle (IA) commence à être déployée dans le domaine du contrôle non destructif. Il s’agit d’analyser, par intelligence artificielle, de grandes quantités de données, notamment ultrasonores (ce sont des échographies de matériaux métalliques, composites ou autres), pour y détecter des défauts de fabrication ou d’usure (par exemple des trous, de la corrosion, etc.). L’application de techniques éprouvées d’IA donne des résultats passables. Toutefois, les progrès les plus récents en IA ont démontré non seulement des performances supérieures, mais aussi des techniques plus efficaces pour faire apprendre aux modèles d’IA comment analyser les données. Le projet de recherche consistera à adapter ces progrès récents en IA pour le contrôle non destructif dans le but d’accélérer le déploiement de l’IA dans ce domaine et d’en améliorer les performances.
