Amélioration de la performance d’une organisation sportive : développement d’une méthodologie d’intervention en organisation

La performance des organisations sportives est aujourd’hui une préoccupation d’importance pour ces dernières. Le présent projet vise à accroître la performance d’une organisation sportive, les Riverains du Collège Charles-Lemoyne de la Ligue de hockey midget AAA (Québec), par l’élaboration et le déploiement d’une méthodologie innovante et adaptée aux caractéristiques propres au partenaire (présence d’étudiants-athlètes, petite taille). Les retombées du projet pourront à terme contribuer à l’amélioration de la performance des organisations sportives similaires.

Applying Multi-surface Environments to Medical Imaging Techniques

In medicine, imaging-based exams are used to support diagnostics, treatment planning andlor the treatment itself. Considering the number, integration and nature of devices in a multi-surface environment (e.g. smartphones, tablets, multi-touch surfaces and wall displays), this project proposes a system for imaging visualization and manipulation that takes advantages from each device’s capabilities in the environment. The goal is to integrate the framework MSEAPI developed at the University of Calgary – responsible for the creation of multi-surface environments and applications, as well as interactions between users and devices – with ResolutionMO from Calgary Scientific Inc. – an imaging visualization tool for medical diagnosis. This integration aims to show (i) how the future of medical imaging manipulation and visualization tools is envisioned and (ii) present a case for Calgary Scientific to utilize their tools in a novel environment.

Learning from the Experiences of Recovery College Stakeholders to Inform the Implementation and Evaluation of an Innovative Model of Mental Health and Substance Use Care in Vancouver

The overarching objective of the RC project is to generate evidence to support the successful development, implementation, and evaluation of the Recovery College model in the Vancouver Coastal Health region of British Columbia. Research conducted by interns on this project will include incorporating lessons learned from current and previous Recovery Colleges in other areas of Canada and internationally, laying the groundwork for the development of implementation and evaluation frameworks for two (2) pilot programs of the Recovery College model. The research will help determine the impact of peer and professional co-designed, co-produced, and co-delivered educational programs have on mental health and substance use clients’ overall health outcomes (e.g., health; quality of life), as well as on peers, professionals, and students at the college, and on health service utilization.

Engagement social et insertion socio-professionnelle de jeunes adultes issus de communautés racisées

L’équité en éducation est un enjeu prioritaire selon l’OCDE (2018). En effet, les jeunes issus des communautés racisées ou de milieux défavorisée sont de 20% à 40% moins nombreux à obtenir un diplôme d’études secondaire comparativement aux jeunes qui n’en sont pas issus (UNESCO, 2020). Ces iniquités en éducation affectent les chances d’insertion socioprofessionnelle et persistent ainsi lors du passage à l’âge adulte. Un moyen privilégié de favoriser une meilleure équité lors de ce passage consiste à soutenir l’engagement social des jeunes à risque de marginalisation dans diverses institutions et activités comme les programmes de participation citoyenne de l’Institut du Nouveau Monde (INM), l’organisme partenaire de ce projet. Afin de contribuer au développement de ces programmes, le présent projet vise à documenter les types et les conditions d’engagements qui favorisent la persévérance scolaire et l’insertion de jeunes issus de communautés racisées qui ne sont pas engagés dans des études post-secondaires.

Parcours d’insertion et de réinsertion aux études des jeunes à risque : quelles sources de soutien contribuent à promouvoir la persévérance lors de la transition à l’âge adulte ?

Ce projet cible une population sous-représentée dans les études sur la transition à l’âge adulte, soit les jeunes abandonnant l’école avant la diplomation du secondaire. Il vise à approfondir le portrait de leurs parcours scolaires post-décrochage, auprès d’un échantillon de 545 jeunes provenant de milieux socioéconomiquement désavantagés, interviewés une fois à l’adolescence, puis une seconde fois à l’âge adulte. Deux questions prioritaires pour Réseau Réussite Montréal (RRM), seront abordées:
1. Pour les jeunes qui réussissent à s’engager ou se réengager dans leurs études de manière à obtenir leur diplôme secondaire (p.ex. : via la Formation générale aux adultes) pour ensuite poursuivre vers le CÉGEP ou l’emploi : quelles sources de soutien social, communautaires et institutionnelles ont contribué à leur réussite?
2. Pour ceux qui peinent à obtenir le diplôme convoité et à s’insérer en emploi : quelles ressources auraient pu les aider? Pourquoi n’y ont-ils ou elles pas eu recours?

Controlled Extraction of Chlorophyll from Algae

The world is facing a looming population crisis and production of sufficient food to feed humanity will be a major challenge. Simultaneously, our continued reliance on chemical pesticides to sustain crop yields has resulted in severe resistance issues and foodstuffs contaminated with pesticides. New methods to kill these pathogens is required. The algae pigments chlorophylls are photoactive compounds that can be used as antimicrobial materials by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS). The challenge was that the isolation and scale-up of these photosensitizers has not yet been achieved. Extraction and separation of these photoactive compounds are of significant importance in the design and development of new types of antipathogen formulations using ROS. This project will investigate how we can extract and purify derivatives of chlorophyll from algae using supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). Accordingly, improving the quality of products can lead to an increase in sales and profits for the partner organization.

Comparaison des mécanismes psychologiques et neurophysiologiques impliqués dans la gestion de la douleur grâce à l’hypnose, la réalité virtuelle et la combinaison des deux techniques.

L’hypnose et la réalité virtuelle sont de plus en plus utilisées en psychologie/médecine dans la gestion de la douleur aigue et chronique. Actuellement, il n’existe que très peu d’études comparant ces deux techniques, séparément ou combinées, évaluant leur efficacité quant à la modulation de la douleur, et permettant de comprendre les processus sous-jacents à ces outils. Notre projet vise à répondre à ces 3 objectifs, dans une première étude, par l’inclusion de 24 volontaires, répartit en 4 conditions : contrôle, hypnose, réalité virtuelle et hypnose en réalité virtuelle, durant une stimulation électrique douloureuse. Les mesures prises seront phénoménologiques (absorption, dissociation, présence, perception du temps) et neurophysiologiques (variabilité cardiaque, conductance de la peau, réflexe nociceptif de flexion, électroencéphalogramme haute densité). Notre hypothèse est que la combinaison des deux techniques devrait augmenter l’absorption et permettre une meilleure réduction de la douleur.

Examining the Teaching of Critical Multilingual Language Awareness for All Students

The purpose of this project is to analyze data collected over a 4-year period as part of a funded Research-Practice Partnership between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a local public school district. The data was collected across two elementary schools to explore the teaching of Critical Multilingual Language Awareness (CMLA) in mainstream and bilingual elementary classrooms. The analysis of this data provides a strong foundation for Dr. Gail Prasad’s new work to extend this research about language and literacy practices in multilingual school contexts from the United States to develop a contextual understanding of Ontario schools. After analyzing the data, we will write an academic article will be prepared to disseminate findings. This project will build an empirical base demonstrating how multilingual environments, such as classrooms in 21st century schools, may benefit both ‘monolingual’ and ‘bi/multilingual’ – plurilingual children and better prepare them to work and live together in multilingual communities.

Reconstruct the Saskatchewan Construction Legislation Act

The aim of the project is to assess the benefits for Saskatchewan’s construction industry in adopting legislation similar to Manitoba’s Construction Industry Wages Act. The Manitoba legislation has been held up as a model of industrial stability by both employer associations and the building trades in that province. This project seeks to determine what benefits – economic, political and social – could be derived for Saskatchewan from implementing similar wage and labour standards as contained in the Manitoba legislation.

The Manitoba construction industry has seen a significant expansion over the past decade, which many attribute to the stabilizing influence of the Construction Industry Wages Act. During the last decade, the market dynamics led to the plunge in unemployment rates to approximately 7%. This research will provide the Saskatchewan Building Trades with the data and analysis on whether a higher minimum wage and better labour standards for construction workers has a positive spillover effect in the rest of the economy, and whether it helps to attract young workers to the industry and retain current workers. In Saskatchewan in particular, the construction industry often competes for labour with the petroleum industry.
