Marketing Intern (MBSI) (May 2021) – Physician Focus

As our MRI based screening services requires that our customers come to our facilities to be scanned, our expansion into several US markets has been slowed. We feel that we need to explore repositioning of our offering and our approaches to reach what we expect to be a very strong market for us, particularly the San Francisco/Bay Area, Florida and LA as we continue to expand into imaging partnerships. An intern will bring fresh eyes to help us better communicate our message and bring this life changing service to an even greater number of people as we continue to grow. There are 3 primary areas of focus that we feel an intern can both help us grow and provide an exciting opportunity for the intern’s growth and development. These may include content marketing & strategy, acquisition marketing & strategy, and marketing conversion, analytics & strategy.

Innovative Educational and Marketing Tools for Prospective IP Rights Owners

Bereskin & Parr (“B&P”) would like to hire Bonnie Hassanzadeh, a second year Juris Doctor Candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School and prospective intern, to distill complex intellectual property (“IP”) law concepts via virtual educational and marketing materials for prospective clients. B&P markets their services largely to startups, investors, entrepreneurs, and technology managers who often lack an IP law background and need guidance for protecting their innovations and designs.

The COVID-19 pandemic hindered B&P’s ability to connect with prospective clients through in-person events. Lawyers from B&P typically use these events to educate innovators about the best ways to protect their IP and market B&P’s relevant services. As these events are now inaccessible, B&P is looking for new ways to educate and retain both prospective and existing clients in a virtual world.

With funding from Mitacs, B&P can hire a student intern to research and translate various IP law concepts to visually appealing and comprehensive educational and marketing materials. The student will also research marketing strategies for tailoring these materials to varying clientele and determine the most effective media to convey them. These materials would save prospective clients time and money.

A Universal Design Framework of Employment Accessibility Standards for Supporting Visually Impaired Community by Social Robots

This project aims to employ a universal design framework to employ a social robot-aided training system to support the visually impaired community in attaining an inclusive job interview process. The universal design framework advocates that any given environment is accessible by persons with disabilities, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. The research will take an evidence-based approach by adopting qualitative data collection strategies for the visually impaired community, such as conducting interviews and focus group sessions. Data collection will include persons with different visual processing disabilities, successful and unsuccessful experiences in the job interview process, and hiring managers and human resource professionals. The goal is to establish guidelines for implementing inclusive employment and accessibility standards while providing practical tools to break barriers in the recruitment process for the visually impaired community.
