Characterization of Lepeophtheirus salmonis (Sea Lice) resistance to common therapeutants

The sea louse (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) is the most economically important parasite that affects salmon farming and it is a cause for major environmental concern due to the risk of transmission to wild salmon population. The development of drug resistance in a number of L. salmonis populations to the most effective sea lice therapy – SLICETM diminishes the ability to control sea lice levels on farmed salmon. This project will characterize the genes and pathways associated with resistance to this drug and determine, whether other sea lice drugs affect similar/different genetic pathways in the parasite. This information will be extremely useful in the development of new drugs to target different pathways within the parasite

Telehealth group interventions for addictions in a community mental health setting during the COVID-19 pandemic

Health services delivered over the internet, often referred to as telehealth services, are becoming an increasingly important way of providing healthcare. This has been highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the necessary shift to online service delivery for many organizations that followed. Although there is some evidence that telehealth delivered mental health services are as effective as in person services, this evidence is limited to certain mental health issues, populations, and types of interventions. Very little is known about (1) the delivery of group interventions through telehealth and (2) using telehealth in the context of addictions. This project will help to fill this gap by partnering with a community organization, Rideauwood Addiction and Family Services, to examine the delivery of group interventions for people addictions and their families during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will do this by conducting interviews with group facilitators and group members in order to gain an in depth understanding of their experience. Rideauwood Addictions and Family Services will benefit by learning about the benefits and challenges that arose and by better understanding the needs and experiences of their clients and staff members.

Étude sur l’impact du niveau de risque en cybersécurité des PME du Québec suite à la transformation numérique post-covid et développement d’un algorithme de gestion du risque

L’objectif principal de cette recherche est de déterminer le niveau actuel de risque électronique dans les PME. (10 à 499 employés) et d’étudier les variables qui peuvent influencer la probabilité et l’impact de l’e-risque dans le futur. En particulier, la recherche tiendra compte des variables liées à l’utilisation ou à la non-utilisation du télétravail suivant pour différentes entreprises et des mesures de sécurité actuelles ou prévues pour la gestion des risques liés à cette pratique Sur la base de cette analyse, il sera nécessaire de proposer un algorithme de détection intelligent pour l’analyse des risques.

Méthode de qualification optique des parebrises pour les applications devéhicules autonomes

Bien qu’imperceptible à l’oeil nu, la surface d’un parebrise automobile n’est pas parfaitement lisse. On y retrouve de minimes fluctuations, qui dévient légèrement la lumière passant à travers la surface de verre. Ces déviations diminuent la précision des applications de conduite assistée (par exemple, l’assistance au freinage), qui dépendent d’une caméra positionnée derrière le parebrise. L’objectif du projet de recherche, effectué en partenariat avec SYNERGX Technologies inc., est de créer une nouvelle méthode d’inspection permettant d’identifier ces variations d’épaisseur sur chaque surface du verre, qui sont présentement indétectables par les systèmes d’inspection actuels. La création d’une telle méthode pourrait alors permettre de quantifier l’effet du parebrise sur la précision des applications d’aide à la conduite. Il en résulterait alors le développement de systèmes d’assistance à la conduite ou encore de conduite autonome beaucoup plus précis et sécuritaires.

Thrive Community Support Circle, formerly known as Pregnancy Distress Service & Family Support Services has developed a substantial presence in Winnipeg’s inner-city. They have a therapy department, a resource centre, a childcare centre and a thrift shop, where I will be working. In the thrift shop I will be helping to increase revenue through creating awareness to potential customers with marketing. I will be a part of the marketing committee where we will be looking into how to bring new customers into the store from different demographics. I will also be looking into the cost of creating a new exciting brochure for the store as well as the possibility of rebranding with a slightly different name and a new logo. Lastly I will be researching the cost and development of a “Sponsor a Thriver” website to give back to the store’s volunteers.
