An Environmental Management System for the Town of Georgina’s Wastewater Collection System

This study will identify a practical approach to bring a standard mid-size municipality into adherence with the ISO 14001, Environmental Management System standard, for its municipal wastewater system. This will increase the levels of government regulatory compliance, resilience on municipal infrastructure and reduction of risks for basement flooding, spills and overflows of raw sewage to the environment.

System identification and control of fixed wingunmanned aerial vehicles

MicroPilot, a company located in Manitoba, is specialized in design and manufacturing of autopilot systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The company’s interest is to develop accurate simulation models of various UAVs, upon which the autopilot systems are tuned and verified first. The goal of this project is to evaluate and improve the model structure adopted, and develop appropriate tools for extracting accurate models to be used by the simulation. The challenge is to find tools that allow model parameters to be adequately identified, given minimum flight test data and limited sensory information. The outcome of this project will provide MicroPilot with a technology for enhanced control of various classes of UAVs. Accurate model identification is essential to optimize the design of the autopilot systems without excessive flight tests. This in turn will reduce the manufacturing expenses, allowing MicroPilot to compete stronger with its competitors.

Encadrée par la Chaire de recherche du Canada en muséologie citoyenne, cette étude vise à comprendre le potentiel et les limites d’une application mobile qui encourage la prise de parole des groupes racisés autour d’objets de la collection ethnographique déployés dans l’aile des Arts du Toute-Monde au Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. Son originalité repose sur l’application pratique des théories décoloniales, permettant d’identifier les facteurs qui font des initiatives numériques d’inclusion un vecteur du développent du sentiment d’appartenance sociale des citoyens. En empruntant les méthodes de la recherche-action en sciences sociales, mon but est d’analyser la contribution de la muséologie numérique dans les processus de co-création avec les membres des communautés culturelles, afin d’évaluer l’impact de ces processus sur les acteurs concernés : participants, visiteurs et professionnels du musée.

A novel intraocular injectable platform for long-term treatment of retinal diseases.

Retinal diseases are the leading causes of blindness in Canada. Retinal diseases are currently treated by monthly or bimonthly intraocular injections of biologics. At the Sheardown lab, we are developing a new injectable hydrogel that can provide prolonged treatment for retinal diseases. Upon injection, the new treatment forms a transparent solid depot inside the eye that doesn’t interfere with the patient’s vision. The depot provides sustained release of the biologics over several months and is completely resorbable after delivery of its payload. The new treatment aims at reducing the frequency of intraocular injections to improve patient convenience and reduce the burden on ophthalmology clinics.

CMC Research Institutes Inc. – Technology & Market Analyst

The overall project is to conduct market and costing analysis to identify the value proposition, business models, and costing for start-up technology companies; technologies and technology-based services that CMC has developed internally; and costing models for understanding the cost of doing CO2 carbon capture at an industrial site.

PROVA Business Development Analyst

The intern will be working with PROVA Innovations developing strategy for putting its medical device into the hands of patients. This device provides support to patients with Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s, Stroke, and Azheimers’. This project will involve determining what needs to be done in order to receive approval from Health Canada and the U.S. FDA to sell the device, and to receive the support of public and private health insurance providers. If public or private groups agree to cover part of the cost, this would reduce the cost for patients and caregivers to purchase this device and use it for in-home care. At-home rehabilitation care is especially relevant in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The intern’s work will support PROVA’s business development team and its goal of providing support that will improve the quality of life and physical health of patients suffering from neurological conditions.

COVID-19 has impacted almost every industry. Many businesses have been adversely affected as consumer’s habits have changed due to safety regulations, closures, and financial constraints. As the world is beginning to adjust to what is our ‘new normal’, Cadence has an opportunity for success. As Cadence is largely based online, they already have an advantage compared to their competitors. COVID-19 has created a large rise in the popularity of online shopping, and services. So, further developing the online presence will be essential to continue the success of Cadence. This can be achieved in many ways including social media accounts, blog posts, and live streams discussing their service offerings.

Introduction de l’intelligence artificielle à l’usine pour une réduction des émissions carbone associées à la production du béton

La réduction des émissions CO2 reliées à la production du béton est un défi important pour l’industrie. Le programme de recherche présenté vise à intégrer l’intelligence artificielle dans la production du béton. À terme, une usine « intelligente » pourra utiliser chacun des constituants du béton à son plein potentiel par une optimisation de la production en fonction de critères techniques, économiques et environnementaux. La présente demande combine l’analyse de données multivariée de données de production à l’étude des mécanismes par lesquels les variables de procédés influent la stabilité du béton produit en usine. Cette approche conjointe permet de cibler les facteurs ayant un réel impact sur la production de béton, de mieux les comprendre et d’avoir un réel impact sur la production de béton.

This project will ensure that management systems are aligned across business units from Sales and Marketing to Operations, Implementation, and post-market analysis. This project is essential to Dataffinity Health because we are rapidly growing and are running into scalability issues caused by our information management systems. We need new ways to monitor and measure operational activities to continuously grow and improve our processes while ensuring the appropriate training programs are in place for key personnel.

Sales Pipeline and Process Development (Sales Manager): The Sales Manager will play an instrumental role in supporting Dataffinity Health’s sales activities, competitive analysis, and strategic positioning of our offerings. The Sales Manager will assess and improve Dataffinity Health’s current sales platforms while designing meaningful feedback channels to inform strategic initiatives and sales materials. Dataffinity Health’s sales team is rapidly expanding, and we need to create compelling sales materials, processes, and strategies to unlock value and support Dataffinity Health’s aggressive growth objectives.
