The Cartelle Group Ltd. – Digital Marketing & Media Production Assistant

Cartelle will continue to scale the marketing consultancy side of the business by continuing to add and refine processes and tools. Brainstorming marketing strategies, and turning those ideas into real-life plans whether that is a new ad campaign, a print ad, a landing page, or systematic results documenting, client work is always evolving. The role of the interns is to help manage client projects and ensure an overall organized workflow process. The business is currently porting to new and more robust marketing automation tools along with exploring others such as Active Campaign and Lucky Orange. This role also includes project management and account coordination to ensure that client deliverables are met on time and on spec. Our company would be able to get more organized and take on more clientele, resulting in increased revenue and business growth.

Development of a multiplexed readout for microwave kinetic inductance detectors

As new generations of millimetre-wavelength cosmology experiments look to detect ever-fainter signals, they require ever-increasing levels of sensitivity. Because modern detectors and readout systems already operate at such high levels of performance that they attain the physical limit imposed by the photons they detect, any improvements in sensitivity must instead come from increasing the number of detectors that an experiment operates. The next-generation experiment on the South Pole Telescope, SPT4, proposes to achieve this by adopting a detector technology which is new to this scale of experiment, the microwave kinetic inductance detector (MKID).The first major deployment of these detectors for scientific means at millimetre wavelengths, this represents a significant technical challenge, as existing systems on the telescope must be either majorly overhauled or developed anew. These systems centre around the transport of signals into and out of the cryogenic equipment which houses the experiment’s focal plane. The development of these systems involves testing with MKIDs, which are operated at sub-Kelvin temperatures (100mK) and require highly specialized experimental setups, such as are available at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and at the University of Chicago.

Mallette – FSA UL

Programmer/Developer – RES0054256

RemBRAINdt is a project seeking to explore the relationship between emotion and art. EEG data is processed through machine learning algorithms in order to label the data with a particular emotion or emotional qualities. It will be my job to design the front and back end integrations for the payment and data transfer portion of the project. The end goal of my internship is to have the project ported over from the original platform (local software used for events) to the internet, and to make it marketable.

Workforce Planning Project Phase 2

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused major disruptions to the job market. Employment services organisations, including Kingston Economic Development Corporation (our partner organisation), indicate that the growth of businesses and economic activity is seriously hampered by the inability to hire qualified employees. To alleviate the mismatch between demand and supply in the labour market, it is imperative to develop the ability to (a) rapidly detect trends, such as shifting demands in specific regions or types of jobs, or new types of positions or skills, and (b) better communicate to job seekers accurate information about the skills and jobs in demand, to facilitate their rapid reskilling. The purpose of this project is to create a platform enabling the regular and rapid analysis of job demand data scraped from various online databases already in place. The platform will enable answering the following questions: What skills are employers in Kingston and Eastern Ontario looking for? What skills do the jobseekers in Kingston and Eastern Ontario have? Where can the skills be found and where are they needed? What rapid skills development opportunities are available to job seekers that will quickly align them with the needs of the job market?

Marketing Internship for What’s The Deal? Corp.

The intern will be applying his knowledge of creative marketing strategies by designing and implementing a complete marketing campaign. The objectives of the campaign are to attract new users for the mobile app and increase engagement among existing and new users. Since the partner organization is a start-up with limited resources, the campaign must focus on free or low cost marketing techniques. Successful completion of the campaign project will help the partner organization grow their brand, attract new clients, and increase revenue. The campaign should be designed to be replicated in other markets to enable expansion across the province and the country.

Digital Transformation for the BIPOC entertainment industry

By interning with Reelworld Film Festival and Screen Institute, I aim to apply my professional experience and academic knowledge within the non-profit creative industry. These skills range from creative problem-solving, human-centred design solutions and critical thinking. With a background in marketing and communications and a student at Ryerson’s FCAD, I look forward to growing the presence of Reelworld Institute in the digital space. This is an opportunity for me to provide support to an organization that needs additional assistance in modifying its business operations to adapt to the new COVID-19 economic reality.

Reelworld Film Festival and Screen Institute is the largest national platform specifically dedicated to amplifying the voices of creators in the screen-based production sectors identifying as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour and I am genuinely excited to be working with an organization and professionals who are dedicated to changing the face of media landscape by empowering and showcasing indigenous talent in mainstream media. During this internship, I will use my marketing, creative problem solving and digital media skills to further the organization’s mission and values.
