The project I will be working on will include three major project activities. Project ‘Food for Thought’ will see me performing activities for 1. Mobile Food Bank : The focus of Project Food for Thought will primarily be distributing hampers of essential food items (and other essential
items, such as feminine hygiene products) to high need community members, identified via Essential Service Requests submitted to NL Eats. The hampers will be prepared at a central location in St. John’s (location to be determined) and distributed by a team of volunteer drivers.
2. Provincial outreach: As part of its efforts to support food security across Newfoundland and Labrador, NL Eats will conduct ad hoc provincial outreach trips to targeted communities across the province.
3. Digital Food Security App: As part of project Food for Thought, NL Eats is currently designing a digital smartphone app that will be available to all food banks across Newfoundland and Labrador and will assist users with stock management and distribution. In addition to assisting food banks, the app will also be designed to assist grocery store operators with more efficiently distributing food donations to the most in-need areas across the province.

Optimisation des niveaux de stock de pièces de rechange

La STM vient d’incorporer un progiciel de gestion d’entreprise (ERP) et souhaite valoriser les données des stocks de pièces afin de réduire ses coûts d’entreposage. Ce projet est la phase initiale d’un projet d’envergure et il vise à développer un outil d’aide à la décision du processus de stockage et de transit des pièces de rechange dans les centres de contrôle. Il s’agit concrètement de mettre en place un processus efficace d’identification des stocks et de voir s’il est possible d’automatiser les modèles descriptifs des inventaires avec les données de l’ERP. Des arbres de décisions permettront de comprendre l’influence des facteurs (comme la saisonnalité, les périodes de vacances, etc.) sur le délai de livraison pour les estimer le mieux possible en temps réel. En parallèle, des méthodes de classification des données permettront de classer les données en les regroupant en clusters de comportement similaires.

The main focus of the internship project will be working within Key Auto’s Marketing Department, specifically
developing marketing strategies (primarily through social media, online and digital avenues) that take into
consideration the change in consumer habits due to COVID-19. In the past, Key Auto’s business has primarily
been conducted through face to face interaction, however, with the recent changes in how business is conducted, our main concern is keeping up with new consumer trends. The final deliverable of this research project will be an optimized social media and marketing strategy that will give clear recommendations and desired outcomes that both senior management and front-line staff will understand.

Taking the Problem Oriented Medical Record Forward: The Aurora Design, Constellations, Intervention and Planning Approach

Value-Based Healthcare (VBHC) is becoming a leading approach to improving patient and health system outcomes around the world. This research is to develop a new problem oriented record for the VBHC where it can analyze the Patient Progression which is the hospitalized patient journey through the required care events, actions and processes to achieve a health status where the patient can be safely and appropriately transitioned to a lower level of care. Patient progression is directed by the physician orders according to hospital policies and procedures. It will be built on the success of the previous version of the system which called Aurora POMR. The enhanced POMR will have advance smart and recommendation services as well as metrics to measure the patient progression outcome.

Analyse comparative de discours écologiques sur les réseaux sociaux

L’objectif de la recherche est d’effectuer une analyse comparée de deux dirigeants politiques du monde francophone occidental, dans leur communication sur leur pages et profils de réseaux sociaux respectifs, Facebook et Instagram. Le but étant d’examiner les représentations sociales qu’ils diffusent au sujet de l’environnement, ainsi que les stratégies rhétoriques (mots, expression, ethos, pathos) sur lesquelles ils s’appuient dans leur communication écologique. Notre étude porte particulièrement sur l’année 2019. Seront étudiés : les stratégies d’ethos et de pathos, les éléments polysémiotiques mis en oeuvre, les représentations socio-discursives de l’environnement, dans une perspective écocritique.

Effects of cannabinoids on ACE2-rich cells

The COVID-19 pandemic is caused by SARS-CoV2 coronavirus. This virus which infect cells that are vital in human organs leading to multiple diseases in need of timely medical treatment. There is a great need in search of inhibitors to block such viral infections as a means for disease prevention and/or treatment. Cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol (CBD), and high-CBD producing plant species of the Cannabis genus will be tested for the inhibition effects.

The vision of ECAH (Easy Care at Home) is to become a one stop shop for all healthcare, wellness and fitness solutions delivered anytime, anywhere. The ECAH App was launched with a mission to simplify the care and wellness process in the Health-Tech space in Canada. Given that ECAH is looking to penetrate the market and to expand its operations, I will be assisting with project strategy and implementation, digital operations management and product marketing. I will be responsible for making the ECAH app accessible to more care providers and care recipients in the GTA region and beyond. Over time, I will also research into additional virtual healthcare services and delivery models and focus on expanding our brand across to the whole of Ontario and Canada and then to the southern territories of USA. Specifically, the internship will aim at achieving the following milestones:
1. Enhancing the quality of healthcare and home care in Canada while reducing their cost of delivery.

Development of Technologies to Extract and Stabilize DNA from a Broad Spectrum of Microorganisms

We propose to continue with our novel approach to high-efficiency nucleic acids extraction from bacteria. Once complete, DNA Genotek Kits are expected to: be relatively simple to use; be applicable to high-throughput environments; release DNA efficiently from a variety of microorganisms; stabilize the profile of the sample species by (i) stabilizing the released DNA at room temperature for extended periods of time and (ii) preventing overgrowth of microorganisms in collected samples. To assess the efficiency of Kits to extract and stabilize microbial DNA, they will be tested using pure bacteria as well as biological samples containing microorganisms. The ability of the kits to prevent growth/effectively kill bacteria will be tested. The metagenomic DNA of gut microbiota will be analyzed. When Kit development is complete, it is expected to be valuable both for basic researchers and for analyzing clinical samples. The_combination of the Kit (DNA_Genotek)_and the improved_Illumina_sequencing_protocol (University-of-Ottawa) promises_to_improve_the_understanding_of_the_relationship_between_the_microbiota_and_its_effect_on_human_health_and_well-being.

Le projet de recherche consiste à développer une méthodologie pour identifier les métriques adéquates permettant de comparer les performances de différentes approches de détection d’anomalie en fonction d’un contexte donné et d’en implémenter une preuve de concept adaptée au problème de surveillance des groupes turbine-alternateur chez Hydro-Québec.
Lorsque les données pour définir explicitement des classes de comportements anormaux sont insuffisantes et que la quantité de données correspondant à un comportement normal est grande, il devient préférable de modéliser des classes de comportements normaux. La détection d’anomalie correspond à identifier les données qui diffèrent du comportement normal.
