Business Strategy Intern

Scalable HR Inc, dba ScalableHR, was established in 2017. It continues to be profitable as an entity, however it requires a careful evaluation of its marketing, value-based pricing, branding, resourcing and strategic business plan to help it reach its revenue target in 24 months given COVID-19 challenges and changes. In addition to this ScalableHR HR intern would user see Intern Two’s deliverables. This includes assistance with the commencement of its new and confidential subsidiary that is scheduled for launch by September 2020. Similar to ScalableHR, it requires recommendations on its marketing, pricing, resourcing and strategic business plan as it will be an industry-changing business that will cause disruption to how

Ingenuity Incubator-YWCA Hamilton

This project develops a ‘virtual ingenuity incubator’ responding to the COVID-19 crisis and contributing to enhancing socio-economic conditions. In Phase 1, we will uncover business practices that women and minority-led small businesses to employ to meet emergent customer needs and evolve, collaborating with the YWCA, Hamilton Fempreneurs, and the City of Hamilton Business Centre. We will create an evidence-based virtual ingenuity incubator facilitating small women and minority-owned businesses to adapt to this crisis, creating materials such as business cases, videos and instructional aides to enhance undergraduate and graduate student knowledge of rapid small-business adaptation and innovation during turbulent periods now and in the future. We will integrate with their activities providing new programming in ingenuity and design thinking, simulations that support expanding business capabilities, and regular weekly consulting services. The YWCA has a program of the Women’s Enterprise Centre, providing a 16-week start-up program for entrepreneurs and existing businesses. We will integrate with the Manager, Shannon Cummings, by delivering professional services that supplement their offerings. In Phase 2, we deploy knowledge developing a “pilot” of a complete, replicable, support and consultative program employing multiple online meetings and distributing resources including insights from Phase 1.

Analytics Strategist – DOUBL Manufacturing Ltd

DOUBL is a start-up retailer that aims to provide women with a customizable bra by taking exact body measurements through advanced 3D image technology. Our perfectly fitting bra will provide all day comfort, allowing the consumer to focus on what’s important in their everyday rather than on their physical discomfort. This increase in comfort has been shown to correlate with confidence which can be a major barrier to women in the professional workforce. This research project, that will be undertaken by our intern, will allow for DOUBL to conduct market research and complete an in-depth product assessment to ensure a successful brand launch. The project will include conducting a thorough analysis of women’s current pain points found in standard market bras by extrapolating data from customer reviews. Furthermore, the research project will include defining a comprehensive brand and product positioning strategy, as well as developing our revenue and costing model. A well-fitting bra should not be a luxury, the lingerie industry has been neglecting female comfort and has been stagnant with regards to innovation and technological progression.

Business Analyst Co-op

Our business has very much been impacted by the pandemic but we have continued to maintain strong operations during the past
few months. While revenues have dropped significantly, with the help of government subsidies and a committed team, we have been able to keep our employees with jobs and provide them a sense of job security. With restrictions easing and things turning around, we are in a critical stage to start fresh and get creative to generate new sales and business opportunities. Having an intern would provide significant support and value to our team to help continue building our brand and develop new business strategies with a unique young lens. They would provide their expertise and hard work ethic on projects and data analysis to support our core team.

During the pandemic we were forced to innovate and think outside of our standard products. We launched a limited edition “Work from home” product line to continue generating new sales and support fellow employees who are working from home. We are currently prototyping another new product for our corporate customers but looking into a potential crowdfunding project to launch it.

Hybridity Media’s Circles Software Design and Interface Research,Smartphone interface design research and development. Aga Kahn Museum OpeningVisual Design Research for Performance Installation;

Hybridity Media’s Circles, is a user-friendly software application. With motion senor
technology and light projections, it causes the audience to become the art by painting a visual
portrait on a screen using their dynamic body movements.
Hybridity’s design of the Aga Khan Museum opening , using our signature interactive art
installation techniques, is an opportunity to fuse a thousand years of early history with the
future of electronic artistry.
Push and Pull is Hybridity’s epitome of play and experimentation. The user controls the music
and the projections by dancing and moving about. Bringing it to the Vancouver International
Children’s Festival is a chance for us to model our prototype for our choicest audience yet.
Through the development of these projects, Hybridity Media will research and develop
projection mapping and interactivity through sensor-based technologies like Microsoft Kinect,
in an installation setting , allowing for new artistic visions enabled through innovative forms of
audience engagement.

Business Strategy Internship: Advanced Reporting

As an online business, Spärkel relies on data to adapt and improve all business strategies. Covid-19 forced many retailers and competitors to expedite their investments in online capabilities. This poses a challenge to Spärkel’s competitiveness. Using the Advanced Reporting Intern will allow the company to gain better insight into the performance of business strategies. In turn, this will allow the company to quickly adapt to the changing retail landscape. Sourcing and organizing sales, marketing, finance, and service data is crucial to the growth of the business. This information, along with research conducted as part of the project will play a crucial role in building international expansion plans.

Business Strategy Internship: Marketing & PR

The covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected SpÃrkel’s supply chain. Slower manufacturing in China and busy shipping routes will make stock-outs and fluctuating supply levels common for the foreseeable future. This is pushing SpÃrkel to adapt and invest in long term marketing strategies such as Public relations and influencer marketing for which the intern will research best practices and implement strategies. This project will allow SpÃrkel to build a stronger community of users, which will decrease their reliance on advertising and improve the resilience of the business overall.

Outreach Coordinator

For the next few months, the Social Diversity for Children Foundation (SDC) is looking to enhance the lives of as many children with disabilities as possible, due to the absence of traditional support systems for neurodiverse children during this COVID-19 pandemic. Since a large part of SDC’s initiatives depends on community partners, the Outreach Coordinator is a pivotal role that bridges the divide to form deep and meaningful relationships with local businesses, other charitable organizations, and the government. The key responsibilities of the intern would be grant planning and research, grant proposal development and reporting, community outreach, and donor relations. They would be responsible for working with our staff to communicate with potential donors, organizations, and government entities to secure new opportunities that would benefit the organization.

Noise-aware wearable speech enhancement system

This project aims to design an embedded system to enhance human speech in noisy industrial environments to boost automatic speech recognition (ASR) performances. Speech recognition is desirable for workers to log information in the system without using their hands, which improves productivity significantly. In this project, the system will learn to remove the ambient noise using machine learning and an array of microphones to boost the speech recognition performance.

Investigation of Enhanced Superplastic Behaviour of AA5083 Aluminum Sheet for Vehicle Weight Reduction

Large automotive body panels are currently manufactured by heating aluminum sheets and pressurizing them into a die. However, this superplastic forming process requires long cycle times to avoid tearing the sheet. Preliminary work has demonstrated that by applying small pressure oscillations in addition to the increasing base line pressure a significant increase in the formability of superplastic alloys can be achieved. This research will consist of experimentally applying small oscillations to AA5083 sheet specimens pulled in tension. The objective of this investigation is to determine the ranges of amplitude and frequency of the superimposed oscillation that maximize the sheet formability. The conditions that optimize the sheet formability will ultimately be applied to industrial processes in order to reduce process time and improve part quality. It is anticipated that this research will help to further reduce vehicle weight and associated manufacturing costs.
