Team Power Solutions (TPS) is a company that was established in 2009 with a handful of reputable experienced professionals, and proudly Saskpolytech Alumni. The founding members of Team Power Solutions have a depth of knowledge gained from years of field experience and formal training with Westinghouse, Siemens, GE, and other engineering and technical service organizations. With this knowledge and years of experience, TPS has developed a well-rounded team to meet or exceed all its clients’ service needs, by providing a wide range of electrical products and services across Canada in the areas of Electrical Field Services, Manufacturing, Engineering, Automation and Digital Application, Instrumentation, Training, Equipment Remanufacturing.

We consider ourselves a diverse company in terms of ethnicity, education, skills, culture and age, just to name a few, we know how important diversity is to be successful and be able to adapt to changes. Preparing bio-plastic form lignin and chitosan extracted from renewable resources

Plastics play a vital role in our daily lives, touching various sectors such as construction, healthcare, automotive, agriculture, and packaging. Packaging films, in particular, serve diverse purposes for both food and non-food items. However, the widespread use of disposable plastics leads to a significant waste issue. To address this, there’s a growing push to replace petroleum-based plastics with alternatives derived from renewable resources. This not only reduces our dependence on fossil fuels but also helps alleviate the environmental impact of non-biodegradable plastics. Our current project focuses on creating eco-friendly bioplastics from renewable sources like lignin and chitosan, extracted from green resources. These biodegradable and non-toxic alternatives aim to contribute to a safer, more sustainable planet.

This project is designed to answer the question “What are the key elements and dynamics of the policy environment influencing the development and adoption of protein alternatives in the food system of Canada and the USA?” This question is from a broader question of how protein alternatives are governed in the current food system. Analyzing alternative proteins through a socio-technical transition lens provides valuable insights into their current status, future potential, and adoption trajectory as an emerging technology in food systems. The diffusion of these proteins serves as a dynamic example of market-driven transitions, where innovations and existing industries strive to offer sustainable solutions. Our conceptual framework’s primary focus lies in understanding the intricate dynamics between actors and institutions by zooming in on how participants in this innovation navigate within social structures, acknowledging their agency in shaping and being shaped by these structures.

Development of Robust and Consistent Automated Sorting System for Baby Chicks

This project aims to support the development of an automated chick sorting device that uses software, cameras, and conveyors. Techniques to increase the consistency of chick reactions to maintain separation along a conveyor and to induce wing spreads will be explored. The wing spread is required to expose to biological markers that exist on the wing tips. With more consistent and reliable chick reactions, a machine learning model will be better equipped to train and inference the data.

Development of new techniques for dynamic security assessment of power systems

In power systems, dynamic simulation studies are required to ensure safe and secure operation of electrical grid. In these studies, different devices, such as generators and transmission lines, are represented by a mathematical model with a number of predefined parameters. The accuracy of the simulation studies highly depend on the models used for different components. As the devices become old, it is necessary to calibrate the model and fine-tune the parameters to maintain the accuracy of simulations. In the recent years, the installation of advanced measurement devices in power systems has made it possible to record synchronized voltages and currents in different parts of the network. It is one of the objectives of this research to use these synchronized measured quantities to fine-tune the parameters of dynamic model of the generators to improve the accuracy of dynamic simulation studies. This stage will result in a module called “Model Calibration”. In the second stage of the proposed research, a new module will be developed to detect subsynchronous resonance (SSR) in power systems. SSR is a phenomenon in which there is a coincidence between natural resonance frequencies of mechanical system of generator and electrical grid.

Production de matériaux biosourcés à base de tanin

L’objectif de ce projet est de développer les matériaux biosourcés en collaboration avec les membres chercheurs au Canada, en France et au Brésil. Ce volet sera divisé en trois sessions mais la stagiaire Mme Khouloud Swalmi participera à la session sur la production de matériaux biosourcés, spécifiquement de gels à base de tanins commerciaux venant de l’Argentine, Brésil et Italie. La stagiaire développera des formulations à base de tanins commerciaux, d’isocyanates ainsi que des durcisseurs, les caractérisera par des analyses physico-chimiques et comparera les performances vis-à-vis du tanin extrait en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (qui sera extrait par la suite dans le projet).
