L2M – Novel deep brain stimulation device for the treatment of neurological disorders based on magnetic nanocomposite technology
Globally, neurological conditions are the second highest cause of death and the leading cause of disability, affecting 40% of the population to some extent, a number expected to double in the next two decades. The vast landscape of neurological disorders are combated with various approaches: pharmacological, therapeutic, and surgery; however, the WHO warns that with the ageing population encroaching, the future of healthcare will be in crisis if new modalities aren’t practiced. This proposal outlines an implantable deep brain stimulation device that imparts effective control over diseased neural tissue by using electromagnetic waves. This device offers individualized symptom management for all neurological conditions since it is tunable by nature of its nanoscale components. Implantation is less invasive than its predecessors, and it operates wirelessly with ease with just an infrared light and an external magnetic field during treatment.
