Indian Institute of Science and Mitacs collaborate to strengthen Canada–India research partnerships and expand global research mobility

Vancouver, BC — A new collaboration between Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Mitacs will expand opportunities for students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty to take part in international research exchanges between India and Canada.  

The collaboration supports joint work in priority sectors for both countries, such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, biotechnology and health, clean technology, and advanced manufacturing.   

Expanding connections between Canadian and Indian researchers, the partnership between Indian Institute of Science and Mitacs reflects their shared commitment to create new opportunities for talent development, knowledge exchange, and international research collaboration.  

Through existing programs – including Mitacs Globalink Research Award, IISc’s International Visiting Faculty Program and IISc’s Short-Term Visiting Program for Students/Researchers – both organizations will explore ways to increase mobility for students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty between India and Canada. 

Between March 2018 and April 2026, Mitacs supported over 4,000 internships opportunities, for over 3,900 interns, connecting Indian and Canadian institutions, strengthening collaboration across academia, industry, and government.
