Light is a powerful sensing tool that humans are very familiar with. We are, however, only sensitive to a visible light. Much more can be learned from other types of light. Terahertz light is very low energy light that allows very sensitive non-invasive measurements to be made on many types of samples including biological and polymers. This makes it a compelling tool and currently there is exponential growth in Terahertz light technologies. Despite the interest, terahertz light remains a challenge to work with and new innovations are needed to keep driving the technology forward to reach its full potential. We propose a new sensor design that allows faster, better, and easier terahertz light measurements to be made with any existing terahertz system. In this project we will develop a refined prototype and explore the commercial viability of this prototype through the Lab2Market program.
