A Reconciliation Plan for WestEnd Commons

This Project is a partnership between 1JustCity and WestEnd Commons. 1JustCity is an organization committed to strengthening and sustaining social justice work throughout Winnipeg by backing member organizations and community partners. WestEnd Commons also known as St. Matthews Non-Profit Housing Inc. (SMNPH) is a unique newly renovated church building with 26 residential units upstairs and a Neighbourhood Resource Centre (NRC) on the lower level. The NRC is home to a number of agencies and programs. The centre also provides meeting rooms and a commercial kitchen to casual and long-term renters. WestEnd Commons works towards the best possible future for all residents by creating a collaborative community of hope, joy and strength in West Central Winnipeg based on mutual support, dialogue and caring. Given that 50% of the tenants are Indigenous people, including kids, the elderly, persons, with physical and/or mental health issues and LGBTQ people, this internship aims to grow efforts to create cultural awareness. Specifically, the intern should create educational materials to embrace reconciliation and support the organization in overcoming existing gaps.
