The project “Advanced numerical modelling tools for entanglement harvesting with superconducting devices” is dedicated to developing tools for a foundational experimental test of quantum entanglement within the framework of quantum field theory. While this theory serves as a cornerstone of modern physics, significant questions regarding the description of quantum measurements and entanglement remain. This research focuses on “entanglement harvesting” — a proposed experiment where two quantum systems, also called detectors, interact with a quantum field to extract correlations, even when separated by large distances.
The practical implementation of this project involves using superconducting quantum devices coupled to electromagnetic fields. We aim to adapt numerical modelling techniques from condensed matter physics, specifically those used for strongly correlated one-dimensional systems, to create precise models for future experimental designs. The expected outcome is a comprehensive suite of tools essential for the design and interpretation of tests that can validate key concepts in quantum field theory. This work will provide a critical foundation for the development of future quantum technologies and a deeper understanding of the fundamental structure of the universe.
