Analysis of Survey Incident Reports: Examining Factors that Influence Health and Safety Within the Mineral Exploration Field

Canada is recognized as one of the leading nations worldwide in terms of mining production, attributing a major component of the success to the mineral exploration field. Companies engaged in mineral exploration have been increasingly more aware of the importance of health and safety systems, yet high numbers of reported incidents remain. Mineral exploration efforts need to have, and enforce, responsible exploration to ensure health and safety for all individuals involved. The proposed project will examine incident report data acquired via survey from a variety of companies and will apply known safety theories to frame the findings. Following the statistical analysis, this work will identify common trends, areas of importance, critical issues, and actionable training suggestions to mitigate risk in the field for mineral exploration workers.
