This project aims to develop a new targeted strategy to deliver therapeutic molecules specifically to melanoma cells, a type of skin cancer known for its aggressiveness and resistance to current treatments. The approach combines engineered single-chain antibodies (scFvs) that recognize unique markers on melanoma cells with nanopyramids synthesized using DNA Origami, capable of transporting cytostatic drugs. By attaching these antibodies to the nanopyramid structures, the project aims to create a delivery system that targets melanoma cells with high precision and binds to them, potentially reducing side effects and increasing treatment effectiveness. During the internship at the University of British Columbia, the student will work with experts in antibody engineering and nanotechnology, access specialized laboratory facilities, and receive training that is not available at their home institution. The collaboration will benefit both universities by generating new scientific knowledge, strengthening research ties, and opening opportunities for future joint projects, student exchanges, and shared technological development in the fields of biotechnology, cancer research, and targeted therapeutics.
