Assessing Canadian Real-estate Stock for Sustainable Futures

Canada is one of the nations that committed towards mitigation of climate change and the Paris climate goals, which mandates major actions to modify the current GHG emissions in the Canadian context. Buildings are the primary consumers of Canada’s produced energy and one of the major GHG contributors. This project aims at assessing the possibility of transforming the ageing building stock through deep retrofit. A toolkit will be developed to prioritize the most effective retrofit options as a function of building type. The toolkit will combine various strategies in order to diminish energy consumption while minimizing GHG emissions associated with the renovation process. The real estate project partner will receive an assessment for a flagship pilot project building for a future implementation process.
