Biomonitoring 2.0 in Practice: Application of Next-Generation Sequencing to Biomonitoring for Use by the Environmental Consulting Industry Year Two

Canada is a world leader in both cutting-edge, DNA-based environmental research and in the abundance and variety of our natural resources. By bringing the transformative power of the “Biomonitoring 2.0” approach for use in the environmental consulting industry, I propose to take the best of the former and use it to create innovative methods for the most sustainable utilization of the latter. Biomonitoring 2.0 is already being shown to be a better, faster and less expensive improvement on traditional biomonitoring, the goal of which is to assess environmental impacts via studying their effects on biodiversity. My goal is to bring these new tools and methods that we have developed to the environmental consulting industry, and help facilitate the transition to this new and exciting paradigm. This approach will alow us to deal with environmental responsibilties that come hand-in-hand with the opportunities afforded us by our natural riches.
