Business Case for the Intelligent Offshore Trawling (IoT) Net

The project will build a business case to evaluate and develop an innovative Intelligent Offshore Trawling (IoT) Net. This net will transform bottom trawling processes by having the net just above the seabed. This means the seabed is not violently disrupted and that the operations of the trawling vessels are more efficient through a greatly reduced loading on the trawling vessel propulsion system. This will decrease the green house gas emissions from underway trawling vessels. A collateral benefit is that the bycatch will be reduced. The intern will examine the preliminary design, perform an engineering feasibility study, examine the cost to early adopters and produce a research and development plan. These components will be documented to form the business case for the IoT Net. This business case document is the project deliverable. This is the first step in a collaboration that will stage a Nova Scotia company, Pombcoup Technologies, to be the OEM for a transformational technology that will is adopted in Atlantic Canada and then across Canada.
