This project will support a Master’s UNB student to investigate the impact of including pyrolysis products (bio-oil and biochar) in asphalt mixtures by designing asphalt mixes that meet the requirements set for pavement applications. The use of carbon-rich bio-oil and biochar; could positively impact the properties and rate of oxidation of asphalt materials. Also, the use of biomaterials contributes to the sequestration of carbon, preventing the creation and emission of carbon dioxide. Ensyn will provide the material (i.e. filter cake) to assess its potential use in pavement construction applications.
