Development of a Multi-User XR-based Ground Control Station

In this project, we would like to develop an enhanced Multi-User Extended Reality Ground Control Station (MXR-GCS) to control an aerial vehicle using a virtual/actual controller defined within the virtual environment. Such an advanced portable MXR-GCS system is important to lower pilot workload and increase situational awareness. In the first place, a virtual ground control station room will be designed and developed in metaverse. The proposed virtual environment will allow multi-users to join, visualize basic flight simulation and accomplish the simulated flight mission together in real-time from distant locations. Users will have a variety of options to control the vehicle using a simple desktop computer keyboard to radio transmitters or more advanced virtual controllers via haptic gloves. In the second place, a test procedure will be conducted to assure the comfortability of the proposed MXR-GCS. Accordingly, a comparison will be done for the aircraft control using variety of controllers.
