Development of Compact Robot for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

robotic TMS coil holder will be developed with the primary objectives of being low-cost and providing a haptic interface for intuitive user manipulation. The key approach to achieving these goals is through reducing the system to the minimal components and working envelope. Frameless neuronavigation methods are capable of easily placing the coil within millimeters of the target, thus through the combination of optical tracking, robotic precision, and fixed coil support, the proposed robotic holder would be capable of repeatable and accurate positioning of a TMS coil. The system would allow for the user to freely manipulate a support arm in order to place the coil within a rough area of the target. Following initial placement, the user would lock the arm and allow the robotic holder to execute the final position refinement using optical tracking as a closed-loop feedback. This new project will allow Rogue Research Inc. to access an untouched market for low-cost precision solutions to TMS coil placement, especially within research settings
