This project focuses on developing advanced bone graft materials made from calcium silicates, enhanced with magnesium or zinc ions. These materials are designed to help bones heal faster and reduce the risk of infections associated with implants. During the project, I will work closely with Dr. Barrelet’s team at McGill University to test the biological and antibacterial properties of these materials, including in vivo studies that cannot be performed at my home institution. The project will benefit McGill by providing new materials to study in biologically relevant conditions, and it will benefit CINVESTAV by expanding expertise from material characterization to biological performance. Ultimately, the project aims to contribute to safer, more effective bone implants and strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions.
