Environmental diagnosis and monitoring of the Buranhém river estuary and adjacent coastal zone, Porto Seguro, Bahia, Brazil

Porto Seguro, in the Bahia province of Brazil, has a need to understand the behaviour of its river systems so that it may adequately plan to improve sanitation and prevent coastal erosion. The student will work under a team of experts in Brazil and assist with data collection, analysis, and planning in the beginning stages of a project designed to understand the Rio Buranhém system. The project will help the lead researchers to create a numerical model that will enable them to approach governments with recommendations that will improve the quality of life for local residents as well as preserve a thriving tourism industry that relies on the health of its coastline.
