This project aims to provide new stress-design equations based on the equivalent stress criterion for the design of pipelines. The first part of the project will evaluate the safety levels of the stress-design equations already existing in the design standards. The second part will focus on the proposal and calibration of the new stress-design equations that ensure an appropriate safety level for the designed pipelines. The new equations will be proposed to the CSA Z662 design technical subcommittee (TSC) which the primary supervisor is a member of. In addition, TC Energy can use the new equations that will be more reliable at predicting the yield capacity of the pipe steel material.
