First Nations are developing protocols and web- and mobile-based software tools (i.e. “systems”)
to assist them with data management for planning and decision making by Stewardship Offices.
These systems are key capacity building tools that will enable First Nations’ participation and
leadership in the conservation and responsible use of renewable and non-renewable resources in
their Traditional Territories.
This research cluster focuses on both infonnation management research and systems (software)
research. The cluster includes computer scientists who are expert at user-centered software
design and multi-stakeholder data management, and marine spatial planning researchers who
understand how spatialized tools help decision-making in regards to cultural and natural resource
