Food Security in West Broadway

The West Broadway Community Organization (WBCO) is dedicated to the social and economic development of the West Broadway neighborhood in downtown Winnipeg. Through this commitment WBCO has created a multitude of programs that address food insecurity, housing rights, community safety and wellbeing, and a sustainable environment among many other community needs. Due to COVID-19, WBCO has had to significantly adjust the programs they offer. The biggest ongoing challenge faced by WBCO due to the pandemic is the challenge of reaching certain members in the West Broadway neighborhood that are at risk of social isolation. A key role of the internship will be aiding WBCO in continually adapting to the new pandemic reality and finding innovative ways to connect the community. This project stands to address multiple community needs. My role is to assist in the workshops WBCO provides so that they can continue to reach the people that need them. This allows for community engagement, wellness, and activism for those who might not have had the prior opportunity or knowhow.
