Good Food Club Farm Trip and Community Food Currency Program Support

This proposed project involves two main objectives in support of the West Broadway Community Organization’s Good Food Club. The first is the re-launching of the Farm Trip Program, which enables community members to visit a small-scale local farm and learn about gardening practices. The second is the increased tracking, evaluation, and reporting of the Community Food Currency program, which works in conjunction with the West Broadway Farmers’ Market to increase low-income community members’ access to fresh, local produce. The Good Food Club is a food security program that aims to empower people within Winnipeg’s West Broadway neighbourhood to become more involved with their own food security, but staff limitations and the continued growth of the Farmers’ Market have made it difficult for the GFC to offer all of their desired programs in recent years. The Farm Trip Program in particular had to be paused in recent years. Therefore, this project will allow the GFC to return to their full range of programming, so they can continue to provide extensive opportunities to reduce isolation in the community, to increase economic development in the West Broadway neighbourhood, and to support low-income community members in participating in localized food systems.
