Gossip and Space in Filipino Homes

This project will explore the role of traditional Filipino homes in preserving cultural stories and building community, focusing on how spaces like verandas and common areas support social interaction and storytelling, especially among women. By studying these architectural features, the project aims to highlight how Filipino culture is passed down through generations, with a particular focus on informal forms of storytelling like gossip. The research will involve fieldwork in the Philippines, where the intern will visit important cultural sites and engage with local communities to collect personal stories. The project will benefit participating institutions by fostering international collaboration, enhancing the understanding of Filipino architecture and culture, and providing new insights into gender and community building, while also contributing to the preservation of Filipino cultural heritage.
