Greenest City Conversations is a research project aimed at developing multiple channels for public engagement on sustainability policies. MetroQuest (MQ) is a digital decision-support tool that generates alternative urban planning scenarios based on user choices, allowing users to evaluate the future consequences of their choices by comparing results and adjusting priorities. The City of Vancouver will be using MQ to engage citizens on its Greenest City (GC2020) goals. For this, MetroQuest will create a customized version of the tool, MetroQuest Vancouver (MQ-V) that will include scenarios and visuals that reflect user choices in areas of land use, energy and transportation. Project interns will work closely with MQ in the development and implementation of MQ-V. This project provides MetroQuest an opportunity to have an academic institution observe and provide valuable feedback on the effectiveness of both existing (workshop, web) and emerging (kiosk and iPad) platforms.
