Helping municipalities find solutions for sustainable drinking water systems

This project will continue with the research recommendations provided in a previously funded Mitacs project. The intern will work with Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador and their members to research ways to enhance their capacity to address their drinking water challenges. Research will be conducted on ways to improve the governance and management of drinking water systems in Newfoundland and Labrador. Research methods will include approaches such as key informant interviews of members of local, provincial and federal governments. Discussion will also be facilitated between academic, industrial, non-governmental, and municipal, provincial and federal actors to research innovative solutions for drinking water
issues. For example, the need for research on enhanced source water protection strategies has been identified in NL and a case study on the topic will be completed with Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Limited during this internship.
