Hydrogen fuel jet visualization and modeling for future zero-carbon engine systems

The project aims to model hydrogen flame/wall interaction in an in-cylinder-like condition using CFD tools and validate the model by in-house experiments on the existing test-bench at SFU, to study different mechanism and structure of the air entrainment and mixing mechanisms associated with it, and quenching distance, in different impingement wall distances, ignition source distance. Furthermore, flame/wall interaction in different angles are to be investigated to understand the flow behavior when the injector is positioned with an angle towards the cylinder center line. The results of this study can be further used in industry sponsored projects for engine calibration and performance optimization.
