In response to heart injury, blood vessels throughout the body constrict. While this response maintains blood pressure, it strains an already injured heart. Reducing blood vessel constriction after heart injury, therefore, is beneficial. Current medications do not target the root cause of the blood vessel constriction. We have identified keys parts of a signalling complex that control blood vessel constriction, but many parts remain unknown. This project will identify the unknown components of the signalling complex. We will then use screening methods to identify medicines that alter this complex. We will test these medicines for effects on blood vessel constriction. Finally, medicines that alter blood vessel function will be tested for benefits in a model of heart failure.
