Improvement of anode quality through pitch modification

Using high-quality anodes, which have high density, low specific electrical resistivity, and low reactivity, reduces the anode consumption, production cost, energy consumption, and the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG). This consequently improves the overall electrolytic cell performance. Therefore, the improvement of anode quality is one of the priorities of aluminium industry. The objective of theproject is to improve the anode quality by modifying pitch using additives. The raw materials will be characterized. The laboratory anodes will be made with the non-modified and modified pitches. Their properties will be compared in order to assess the effect of pitch additives on the anode quality.
