Initial Safety Risk Assessment of Hydrogen–Natural Gas Blends in Pipelines: A Case Study in Québec

This project assesses the safety of blending hydrogen with natural gas in Québec’s pipeline network, which is a
crucial step towards Canada’s transition to cleaner energy. During a 13-week research internship, the project will
identify safety risks, such as material degradation and explosion hazards, using risk assessment tools like HyRAM+.
The anticipated benefits are twofold: Université de Sherbrooke will enhance its research capabilities in process safety
and hydrogen technologies. Universidad Industrial de Santander will help advance expertise in industrial risk
assessment. This collaboration aims to strengthen research capacity at both institutions and promote future joint
projects.
