Innovative nucleic acid extraction and enrichment protocols for human microbiome samples

The aim of the project is to develop innovative workflows to recover genetic material (DNA & RNA) from human microbiome samples collected in DNA Genotek’s devices. The project will also test novel genome-editing tools (i.e. CRISPR) and their ability to selectively remove human DNA in samples containing high quantities of host background. The project will generate insights that will help improve and streamline current processing strategies for microbiome samples which can be lengthy and prone to significant experimental bias. The workflows developed as part of our proposed aims will provide novel innovative processing means for samples collected in DNA Genotek’s devices. This will be extremely useful to the company’s customer base and to the broader microbiome field and it will help increase DNA Genotek’s competitiveness and leadership position in the space.
