Inventing Law: Legitimating Post-World War Two Political Regimes in Romania and France

I am a third-year PhD student in Sociology and Jewish Studies at the University of Toronto, and my research is a comparative study of post-Holocaust trials in France and Romania. My dissertation aims to illuminate the political contexts within which policymakers decide to pursue legal responses to atrocities. In order to complete my PhD research, I need to access documents at a variety of archives in Paris, especially the Archives Nationales. These documents are not available anywhere else, and studying post-World War Two trials in France is an integral part of my dissertation. Professor Liora Israel, a leader in the study of legal responses to atrocity, has agreed to supervise me in Paris, at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales.
