Investigation of the Pilot-scale Microwave Treatment of Kimberlite Ores

The main objective of this research is to assess the feasibility of high-power microwave assisted comminution of kimberlite ores. The idea is that high-power treatment for a short time will yield microfractures and result in a reduction in the production of fine particles, therefore improving dense media separation. This study will involve material characterization studies including permittivity measurements to determine the microwave amenability of the ore(s) and a technoeconomic analysis of the process. Data obtained from this research will help Sepro advance its research and development towards the commercialization of microwaves in the mining industry.
