Kinectrics is seeking to design an uninhabited aircraft system (UAS or “drone) that can lift a robotic power line inspection
device and safely place it on the line automatically so it can perform the inspection, then safely return it to the ground after
the inspection is complete. The goal is to reduce risks to the personnel and improve operational efficiency. Two intern
students will be supported on this project. The first intern will focus on the mechanical interface between the UAS and
LineVue device. The second intern will examine computer vision and other types of sensors to be used with machine learning
to automatically detect powerlines and enable close approach to the lines with small drones.
