Mapping Inequities in Prostate Cancer Screening: A Spatial Approach to Reducing Socioeconomic Disparities

This project will use health data from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) to identify neighborhoods where prostate cancer deaths are higher than expected and to examine whether men in these areas are less likely to receive PSA screening. By combining mapping tools and statistical analysis, the project will help pinpoint communities that may benefit most from targeted screening outreach and policies. For UPMC, the findings will support more efficient and equitable use of screening resources and inform the design of a future intervention program. For the University of Toronto and iCanada, the project will strengthen expertise in spatial health analytics and provide methods that can be applied to Canadian data to develop smarter organized prostate cancer screening policies that reduce health disparities and prostate cancer deaths.
