Mechanical design and improvement of a Mobile Polygeneration Pyrolysis Plant

Biomass wHh little or no commercial value Is often produced as by-products from sawmills
and commercial agricultural activity. The use of this biomass for energy generation can offset
the need forfosall fuels thereby contributing to reductions In Green House Gas (GHG)
emissions. However for biomass to substitute fuels such as natural gas, It needs to be
transformed to gaseous form through Pyrolysis. Canadian Agrlchar Inc. (CAl). has designed a
prototype of a Mobile Polygeneration Pyrolysis Plant (MPPP). In the next phase of the project,
a scaled-up pilot plant will be built and operated at a saw-mlllin Grand Forks. The pilot plant
would utilize woody biomass consisting of saw dust and milling residues to generate export
gas to be used to fire a lumber drying kiln. The resulting Blochar-charcoal will be sold to
customers in the horticulture Industry, (I.e. Commercial greenhouses, tree nurseries, and
florist greenhouses). CAl needs the assistance of an Intern through the Mitaca Accelerate
program In order to…TOBECONT’D
