Modes of action, emotions, and values in right-wing mobilization: the case of Colombia.

Social mobilization and contestation have long been associated with left-leaning forces in Colombia. This activity has often been stigmatized as being promoted by left-wing guerrilla groups. However, right-wing actors have in recent years increasingly adopted modes of contentious action that were traditionally associated with the left in Colombia. How can we explain this change in modes of action by right-wing forces? What meaning and efficacy are associated to different modes of action by the leaders and activists of right-wing groups? I will carry out comparative ethnographic research with several right-wing organizations in Colombia to tackle these questions. This research project will allow me to explore links between modes of action and emotions and values, as well as assessing the differentiated role that organizational decisions and personal feelings play in the selection of tactics of contestation. Right-wing social movements have long been neglected by social scientists. Nevertheless, right-leaning actors have had significant impacts on politics around the world in the last years…..
