Optical beamforming solutions for 6G

The project will develop a 6G silicon-based beamforming network incorporating optical technologies. Such a technology may increase the performance of the 6G wireless systems and to reduce the power consumption. The use of photonics to perform beamforming has a key advantage of wide instantaneous bandwidth with no beam squint problem. Since the signals are already modulated on an optical carrier, the use of photonics to perform beamforming will simplify the system since no additional electrical-to-optical conversion is needed.
