Raasin de la Michif: promoting collaborative Métis food initiatives and culture across northern Manitoba

A food crisis currently confronts many Indigenous communities across northern Canada, including those in the Thompson region of the Manitoba Me´tis Federation (MMF). Efforts have shifted from past reliance on technology-centred solutions to those that are grounded in Indigenous traditions, culture, and language. However, they have yet to be documented adequately much less acted upon in many northern Me´tis communities. The general goal of this project is to characterize and to further facilitate initiatives related to Me´tis food sovereignty and security in northern Manitoba as undertaken by MMF-Thompson region.
The project will evaluate the impacts of the existing gardening program and expand upon the greenhouse/garden. It will systematically document and promote the many food initiatives taking place in Me´tis and other Indigenous communities in Manitoba. It will also explore opportunities for further supporting such initiatives into the future.
