Running simulated networks in a public cloud environment

Ciena is a manufacturer and a provider of networking solutions. The company wants to be able to emulate the different software and hardware components in a very flexible way so that the emulation platform can be available to any user. The emulation allows the user recreate a networking environment to be able to know, beforehand, what the performance of the system will be. At the moment, CIENA has different emulation software that are mostly implemented in local machines but they plan to move the different components into the public cloud so that the emulation will be accessible anywhere. The move into the public cloud implies different research challenges such as nested virtualization and performance bottlenecks. The research that will be carried out in this project deals with those challenges arising when three different software platforms are considered. Three interns will be assigned to those platforms to emulate and carry out a thorough methodology that can provide an answer to those research challenges.
