Salivary composition changes in children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

The proposed research project will focus on investigating alterations in the salivary proteome of patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. By tracking these changes, we aim to understand how the transplantation process affects the salivary glands and saliva composition, and how this alteration relates to the oral complications experienced by these patients. The study will use advanced proteomic techniques such as mass spectrometry and bioinformatic analysis to compare salivary profiles before and after transplantation. As the PhD student, Caio Camargo Calarga will play a central role in all stages of the project: from sample processing and proteomic analysis to data interpretation and dissemination of results. His role will also include integrating the methodologies and findings from both institutions (USP and USask), contributing to knowledge exchange.
