Sara Riel youth

Sara Riel is a community-based organization that provides support for those experiencing mental health illnesses and/or physical health challenges, including substance abuse and addictions. They address mental health challenges through arranging counselling sessions and case managers for individuals to help them manage difficulties they might experience daily. Additionally, Sara Riel offers Seneca Respite, a 24-hour service for those struggling with mental health issues in pre-crises situations. Following the pandemic Seneca Respite created a Warm Line, a 24-hour support line. Furthermore, through Sara Riel’s community mentorship program they are able to help individuals with day-to-day activities such as establishing independent living skills and plans for recovery and rehabilitation. Nevertheless, Sara Riel has struggled on how to approach the area of youth transitioning out of Child and Family Services. They are aware that there might be resistance from youth being helped by yet another organization. However, Sara Riel believes that they have services that would be extremely beneficial for those leaving the system. This includes finding suitable housing, finding employment, discovering the area they are now living in, and connecting them with mentors.
